WA Wine Press Club Presidents | WA Wine Press Club Committee Members
The WA Wine Press Club was formed in 1976.
In brief, its objective is to “Foster relations between the wine industry and the media with the aim of promoting wine in a responsible manner.” This is achieved by providing a forum for media and wine people to meet on a social basis for the exchange of opinions and information in an educational atmosphere, for the betterment of the wine industry.
The Club has prospered because of its informality; a relaxed but strong bond of enjoyable social contact, mixed with a good blend of information and knowledge presented at functions. Its management committee has always been drawn from members who are willing and dedicated to serve in that capacity.
New members are required to be nominated and seconded by existing financial members. An annual subscription fee is due on the 1st of May each year.
The George Mulgrue Award, which was established to honour the Club’s Foundation President, is awarded by the Wine Press Club and honours an outstanding contribution to the knowledge and understanding of wine in Western Australia.
The Court Wine Bar was an Award for the Best Media Story on the Western Australian Wine Industry established in 1996.
The Jack Mann Memorial Medal established in 1989, honours the legendary Houghton winemaker. In the year 2002, the Sheraton Hotel ceased its involvement and the medal is presented solely by the Wine Press Club Est 1976 Ltd with generous support from the Houghton Wine Company.
Mr Mike Zekulich was appointed trustee and he, with the President of the WPC with other wine writer members, meet to select the winner of the medal from people who have made a significant/major contribution to the WA wine industry.
The Wine Press Club Est 1976 Ltd sponsors the Best Wine of the Show Award at the Perth Hills Wine Show.
